Conservancy partners with I Love a Clean San Diego for June 4 cleanup

The Escondido Creek Conservancy is once again teaming up with I Love a Clean San Diego to tackle waste removal near the Keithley Preserve.

The event is from 9-11 a.m. June 4 at 2467 Harmony Grove in Escondido. To register and for more information, visit here.

The Weiler family, which lives upstream from the preserve, worked with the Conservancy to secure a Prop. 1 grant to help remove invasive species such as the Arundo grass. However, during the work, we and the Weilers discovered more trash and waste that was hidden in the brush such as a golf cart and a couch.

Additional concerns center on illegal dumping and transient encampments, which can lead to poisoning of the land and Escondido watershed.

The cleanup is limited to the first 50 people and requires two signed release-of-liability waivers for volunteers, which can be found at the link above. Also, the ILACSD will provide a talk by its Education Team about watersheds and recycling before the teams will be assembled to collect litter.

Friendly reminder, it’s tick season so please consider wearing pants and wear long socks. Please bring water as it will be hot outside and we want everyone to stay hydrated.
